Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Baika-sai (Plum Blossom Festival) 2027

The Baika-sai (Plum Blossom Festival) is held annually on February 25th. During the festival, special Shinto food offerings (shinsen) are presented before the deity to honor the memory and virtues of Sugawara no Michizane, the enshrined deity. These offerings include steamed rice piled high on large and small stands (Oii and Koii), and "kodate" (paper stands decorated with sprigs of white and red ume blossoms). Additionally, the Baika-sai Nodate Ochanoyu (an outdoor tea ceremony) is held, with tea served by maiko and geiko from the Kamishichiken district.

Dates are based on the organizers' announcements and may change with the weather or the bloom. Please check the official information before you go.
