Plum Blossom Routes from Kyoto and Osaka

Routes from Kyoto and Osaka that combine famous plum blossom spots. Access and fees are based on each spot's official information (see the date checked and source on each spot page). Check transfers between spots with a route planner before you go.

Route 1: Kyoto — Kitano Tenmangu and Jonangu

• Kitano Tenmangu Shrine: 5 min walk from Kitano-Hakubaicho Station (Randen). The plum garden "Hana no Niwa" was open from 1 February to 24 May in 2026; same-day adult tickets were ¥3,000.
• Jonangu Shrine: 150 weeping plum trees. During the Weeping Plum and Camellia Festival (18 February – 22 March in 2027), garden entry is ¥1,000 for adults. The car park fills up at peak bloom, so public transport is recommended.

Kitano Tenmangu is usually best from early February to late March, Jonangu from late February to mid-March — late February to mid-March suits both.

Route 2: Osaka Castle Park Plum Grove

• Osaka Castle Park Plum Grove: from Morinomiya or Osakajokoen Station (JR Loop Line) and others. Free and always open. Usually best from early February to early March.

It is in the city, easy to add to a day of sightseeing.

Route 3: A mountain plum grove in Nara — Tsukigase

• Tsukigase Plum Grove: Nara Kotsu bus from JR / Kintetsu Nara Station, about 80 min. Usually best from late February to late March.

Buses are not frequent, so check the times for both ways in advance.
