Three Plum Blossom Day Trips from Tokyo

Three day-trip routes from Tokyo that combine famous plum blossom spots. Access and best seasons are based on each spot's official information (see the date checked and source on each spot page). Check transfers and travel times between spots with a route planner before you go.

Route 1: Easy city viewing — Yushima Tenmangu and Hanegi Park

Two spots a short train ride from central Tokyo; one in the morning, one in the afternoon.

• Yushima Tenmangu Shrine: 2 min walk from Yushima Station exit 3 (Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line). Usually best from mid-February to early March.
• Hanegi Park: 5 min walk from Umegaoka Station (Odakyu Line). About 280 red and 390 white plum trees. The 2026 Setagaya Plum Festival ran from 7 February to 1 March. Free entry.

Route 2: Plum groves along Sagami Bay — Soga, Yugawara and Atami

Plum spots line the coast from western Kanagawa to Atami in Shizuoka. Their best seasons differ slightly, so mid-to-late February is a good time to combine them.

• Soga Plum Grove: about 20 min on foot from Shimo-Soga Station (JR Gotemba Line). Free during the Odawara Plum Festival. Usually best from early to late February.
• Yugawara Plum Grove (Makuyama Park): about 4,000 trees. During the festival: ¥300 (free for junior high school students and younger), 9:00–16:00.
• Atami Baien Plum Garden: bus bound for Baien / Ainohara from JR Atami Station, about 15 min. An early bloomer, usually best from early January to early March.

Route 3: Ibaraki — Kairakuen and Mt. Tsukuba

• Kairakuen Garden: one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. ¥500 for adults during the plum festival; free from opening until 9:00.
• Mt. Tsukuba Plum Grove: Tsukuba Express to Tsukuba Station, then the Mt. Tsukuba shuttle bus (about 36 min). About 1,000 trees.

The two are some distance apart within Ibaraki, so allow plenty of time if you visit both in one day.
