Choosing Low-Salt Umeboshi

What to look for
- Compare the salt equivalent (食塩相当量) on the nutrition label, and check what amount it refers to.
- The Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan give 18.2 g of salt equivalent per 100 g for salted umeboshi and 7.6 g for seasoned umeboshi.
- They often contain sweeteners or seasonings, so check the ingredients too.
- Storage (room temperature or refrigerated) differs by product: follow the label.
