This festival is held at Jonangu Shrine's Shin'en Garden (The Tale of Genji Flower Garden) when around 150 weeping ume trees and camellias reach their peak.
During the festival, the "Umegae Kagura" sacred dance is performed daily at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM on the front stage of the Kaguraden hall (free to watch), featuring shrine maidens (miko) wearing crowns adorned with ume blossoms and dancing with ume branches in hand.
The Shin'en Garden is open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (reception closes at 4:00 PM), and admission is 1,000 yen for adults (junior high school students and older) and 600 yen for elementary school students. The peak blooming period for the weeping ume varies from late February to mid-March depending on the year, and according to Jonangu's records, peak bloom has typically lasted for about 10 days in recent years. Blooming conditions are announced on the homepage of the official website.
Dates are based on the organizers' announcements and may change with the weather or the bloom. Please check the official information before you go.
